Christian Sommer is partner at Executive Interim Partners. He studied business administration with a focus on business consulting and taxes at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. Mr. Sommer began his professional career at PriceWaterhouse Coopers, where he worked as a consultant and auditor for clients in the industrial, retail, and media sectors.

Mr. Sommer then joined Bavaria Film Group, where he managed group controlling and various associated companies as their managing director. He was later appointed to the Management Board of CineMedia Film AG, which he managed as sole director for 12 years. Afterward, he became the management spokesman and shareholder at Trixter GmbH, a provider of digital services for the media sector and industry, where he served as both CEO and CFO.

Mr. Sommer has a history of moving to companies facing economic challenges caused by disruptive technology in the market. He has experience in financial and capital restructuring, as well as medium to long-term performance realignment.

In addition to his management roles, Mr. Sommer has served as a consultant, advisory board member, supervisory board member, and chairman of the board of directors for various business associations.

  • Consultant, then on the initiative of the creditor banks CEO and CFO of a family-owned service company in the media industry with branches in Germany and the USA; turnaround management of the insolvency-prone GmbH, entry as shareholder and after restructuring, diversification and strong growth sale to a strategic investor, post-merger integration and development of a digitalization strategy for the international group of companies
  • CEO/CFO (sole board member) of a listed group in the technical supply industry for the media industry (700 employees); financial/balance sheet restructuring (reorganization of the shareholder structure, capital cut/capital increase, consolidation of 30 subsidiaries); after 10 years, significant digitization-related investment needs, financing failed due to disputes between major shareholders and banking crisis; subsequently preparation of insolvency filing, sale of core business to strategic investor and liquidation together with the insolvency administrator
  • CFO and Head of Controlling of a publicly controlled studio and production company (300 million € annual turnover, 1,200 employees), restructuring of the controlling and reporting system, rationalization, spin-off of business units and support of management buy-outs
  • Took over the management of an insolvent amusement park in North Rhine-Westphalia; closed the park, negotiated with banks, works council and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia on the retention of investment subsidies; sold the park (asset deal) to a US Studio
  • Lead negotiator for employers in collective bargaining with Verdi union
