Michael Hengstmann is Managing Partner at Executive Interim Partners.

He is also a co-founding partner and Co-CEO at Management Capital Holding AG, a private equity firm investing in medium-sized companies.

Prior to joining Executive Interim Partners, Michael was a Partner and Managing Director at AlixPartners, the leading consulting firm for restructuring and turnarounds.

Before that, he was a Partner and Managing Director at One Equity Partners, previously the captive private equity fund of J.P. Morgan.

Michael started his professional career at a family-owned company. He later was Project Manager at Arthur Andersen and Partner and Managing Director at LEK Consulting.

Michael has more than 20 years of experience in executive management roles and complex restructuring mandates, specializing in interim management for operational and financial restructuring.

Michael served as interim Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO), Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) in several German and international companies with a track record in successfully restructuring, refinancing and turning around companies in special situations.

He is serves and has served as Chairman or Member of the Supervisory Board at several companies in Germany and abroad.

Michael earned his Master of Science in Management with Excellence at Hult International Business School in Cambridge/USA (formerly Arthur D. Little School of Management) studied Business and Administration at the Universität of Duisburg/ Germany.

  • Acted as Chief Restructuring Officer and Chief Executive Officer for a Private Equity owned Eastern European manufacturing company (750 employees) and successfully restructured and turn around company and led sales/ exit to new owner
  • Acted as Chief Restructuring Officer and Chief Financial Officer for leading automotive supplier with sales of EUR 380 million and 2.450 employees to prepare for and exit from Chapter 11 process
  • Acted as Chief Restructuring Officer and Chief Executive Officer for manufacturer of cables and wires (350 employees) for a leading family-owned group (sales of EUR 700 million) and successfully led the restructuring and turnaround of the factory
  • Acted as Chief Restructuring Officer and Chief Executive Officer for engineering services business (350 employees) of leading European aerospace conglomerate and successfully restructured and turn around company
  • Acted as Chief Executive Officer for private equity-owned B2B publishing and media group and supported digital transformation process
  • Led team of 35 interim managers to manage operations and successfully implemented major re-engineering project for administrative and finance function for oil company (sales of EUR 8 billion) in Kuwait
  • Acted as interim manager and led project to operationally restructure two larger stores in Germany and prepared roll-out to all other stores as part of major restructuring program for an international chain of retail clothing stores (sales of EUR 1 billion)
  • Led consulting and interim management assignment for automotive division with sales of EUR 1 billion of European aluminum producer, supporting restructuring initiatives in different European location to reduce costs, optimize procurement office, improve profitability and reduce working capital
  • Led turnaround and prepared exit of private equity owned manufacturing company with sales of EUR 180 million and 1,400 employees as interim manager and advisor
  • Led project for turnaround of private equity owned automotive supplier with sales of EUR 80 million
  • Acted as interim manager and consultant in successful turnaround of leading theme park based in Germany (about 1.3 million visitors annually) for a publicly traded US media conglomerate and prepared successful sale to strategic buyer
  • Led post-merger integration team and process for R&D and environmental affairs of Germany-US automotive supplier in Auburn Hills/ USA and Stuttgart/ Germany
  • Acted as interim manager and task force leader for a leading US manufacturer of electric power tools (sales of EUR 225 million) to support development and execution of market entrance in Germany, set-up of retailer network, and prepared successful sale to strategic buyer
  • Acted as interim manager and advisor to the supervisory board and the CEO to support preparation of World Exhibition EXPO 2000 in Hannover
  • Chairman of the Supervisory Board of a Private Equity-owned international manufacturer of electronic motors and investment goods and support of Executive Management Board in restructuring and refinancing phase, the COVID-19 crisis management and sale of the business to new owner
  • Member of the Supervisory Board of a family-owned cable manufacturer and support of the Executive Management Board in restructuring phase, in implementing continuous improvement process in manufacturing and new customer acquisition
  • Chairman of the Supervisory Board of a Private Equity-owned an international media and B2B publishing group and support of Executive Management Board in implementing buy-and build-strategy, post-merger integration process and divestment process of legal entities
  • Chairman of the Supervisory Board of a software company for financing solutions and support of the Executive Management Board in implementing the growth strategy, customer acquisitions and in the marketing and product development process
