With more than 20 years senior executive (CFO / CRO/ General Management) and international consulting experience in corporate finance, restructuring and performance improvement, Marcus has advised and worked with investors, corporates, creditors and banks in financial and operational restructurings, performance improvement initiatives, cross-border reorganization and realignment efforts across a wide range of industries, including consumer products (fashion, bicycle production), retail, machine manufacturing, food production and media.

Prior to joining EIP Marcus was a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) Restructuring and Performance Improvement practice in Germany and London.

Marcus served as Interim CFO/CRO of a major German retail company. Post Transaction he led the restructuring, transformation (from a family owned business to a private equity owner) and cost reduction program.

Prior to joining A&M, Marcus was CFO of a family owned mid-cap company in the food Industry. Marcus was responsible for corporate finance, controlling, accounting, procurement, human resources and information technology.

Prior to this engagement, Marcus was a Partner with Oliver Wyman’s Corporate Finance & Restructuring Practice in Munich, where he was responsible for various international performance improvement and restructuring projects.

Furthermore, Marcus served as CFO of a publicly listed German consumer products manufacturer (bicycle production), where he was responsible for finance, sales and the Post Merger Integration (PMI) of a major acquisition.

As Managing Director for a portfolio company (bicycle production) of a private equity firm investing in distressed companies, Marcus was responsible for all restructuring activities (e.g. managed closing of plants, building up procurement solution for China, managed restructuring and cost reduction of German plant operation, coordinated M&A initiative and due diligence with final sale).

Prior to this, Marcus was Managing Director of an investment fund of Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, London, with a focus on media.

Marcus began his professional career with the Dresdner Bank Group, where he worked as a Project Manager in Structured Finance. During that period, he gained broad experience in financing, M&A and due diligence across a range of industries.

Marcus earned a master`s degree in business administration (Diplom-Kaufmann) from the University of Passau. Marcus has graduated as Certified Systemic Coach at the European Business School (EBS), Oestrich-Winkel and Mediator (MAB), Berlin. A German national, Marcus is fluent in German and English.

  • Acted as Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO) for a trusteeship in a European food service and home delivery company with sales of EUR 270 million and 2.400 employees and led the financial restructuring and performance improvement program including PMO
  • Acted as Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO) and Chief Financial Officer for a private equity owned retail company with sales of EUR 600 million (1.700 stores) and 8.000 employees. Marcus successfully led the transformation from a family to a private equity owned business including post M&A activities, business plan re-evaluation and prepared the restructuring program (PMO) incl. store closures, cost reduction, working capital management and liquidity management
  • Acted as Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) for a family-owned Retail company with sales of EUR 150 million (60 stores) and successfully led the restructuring and sale of the company including Carve-Out of non-core activities
  • Acted as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for a publicly traded manufacturer of consumer products (sales of EUR 100 million) and led a Performance Improvement Program (PMO) incl. assessment of client- (large retailers – Aldi, Metro, Lidl, others) and product-portfolio and successfully supported the Post Merger Integration (PMI) of a major acquisition.
  • Acted as Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO) for a private equity owned manufacturer of consumer products (450 employees) and successfully led the restructuring program including M&A activities (business planning, management presentations, Due Diligence) and successful sale to a main competitor.
  • Marcus was involved in several accomplishments using A&M Rapid Results:
    • Performance improvement for a US based manufacturing company with sales of USD 550 million focusing on SG&A and organizational design
    • Performance improvement assessment for the European operations of an US based global packaging company with sales of USD 2,1 billion focusing on SG&A cost reduction and reorganization
    • Operational Due Diligence for a private equity sponsor bidding for a Frozen-Food production company in Germany
